Cade Henson was ready for a change. After high school, he’d agreed to be a bouncer for his sister’s club, not a dancer. Yet over the course of a year, he’d watched his own life slowly spiral out of control. Until the night he decided it was time to risk it all.

Rynn Lewis was eighteen and pregnant, on the run from her ex-boyfriend, when Cade found her on the streets of Minneapolis. She taught him about friendship and family. She kept him honest and he promised to keep her safe.

He lied.

Excerpt:

Rynn leaned forward to pull down the visor mirror and promptly did a double take. “God, Cade, I look like crap! Why didn’t you tell me I had raccoon eyes?” she demanded, using her fingers to scrub at the black smudges beneath her eyes.

“Because I like my head where it is?” he suggested. “Didn’t seem like the right time to point out that you puked so hard your mascara started to run.”

She sighed and let her fingers drop to her lap. “Yeah, this ain’t gonna do it. Do we have tissues or anything?”

“There might be some napkins in the glove box.”

She rummaged around the overstuffed glove box until she came up with a single, crumpled napkin. “Are you done with that?” she asked, already reaching for Cade’s soda.

“Knock yourself out. It’s mostly melted ice now.” He watched, amused, as she dipped the edge of the napkin into the cup. “You know we’re like twenty feet from a bathroom, right?”

Rynn looked borderline scandalized. “I can’t go inside like this.”

Right. Of course. Cade shook his head. Women. “Give me that. You’re doing it all wrong,” he said after a couple of minutes, when she’d only managed to smear the makeup worse than it had been. He wet half the napkin liberally, ran it under her left eye until a few drops of water dripped down her pale cheek, then used the dry half of the napkin to remove both water and mascara.

Rynn went utterly still at his touch. She sat up straight in the seat, gaze fixed on some point beyond his shoulder. Her skin was cool beneath his hands. Cool and smooth and pale. She’d lost her Alabama tan months ago. He kept his touch light, one hand on her jaw to turn her face as he repeated the process with her other eye. She sucked in a breath when he leaned closer. And he wondered if maybe, just maybe, she wasn’t completely unaffected by him after all. If he kissed her, would she let him?

He dried her face, imagining he was drying her tears and finding the thought strangely appealing. His thumb traced the outline of her jaw, and she jolted. Her eyes flew to his, wide and fathomless. He could lose himself in those eyes. Her lips parted, and his gaze zeroed in on her mouth.

“I’m sorry I smell like vomit,” she blurted.

The napkin was crushed in his hand. “Wow, okay. That’s, ah … you’re fine, Rynn. It’s fine.”

She bit her lip and turned her head to stare out the passenger side window. Cade watched her, wondering what he was even supposed to say to that, cursing himself for spooking her.

“Did you get it all?” she finally asked.

“It’s gone,” he replied quietly.

She checked her reflection in the visor again and nodded. “Like it never happened.” Her laugh sounded forced. “Where did you learn to do that? Did you have to wear makeup at the club? Eyeliner, goth guy stuff,” she added quickly at his look.

“No. It’s a trick I’ve seen my sister do a thousand times.” And strippers. Lots and lots of strippers, when the stage lighting had made their heavy makeup run between sets. Not that he would tell her that. There was a lot of shit he wouldn’t tell her. Too much. And suddenly, he felt like an idiot for thinking he had any right to kiss her a moment ago.

This was a good romance between two different ppl going through a lot of things. I loved the storyline between Rynn & Cade and everything he did to protect her. Highly recommend A month before graduating from Willowgrove Christian Academy, the principal’s perfect daughter, prom queen Shara Wheeler, kisses Chloe Green and vanishes. On a furious hunt for answers, Chloe discovers she’s not the only one Shara kissed. There’s also Smith, Shara’s long-time sweetheart, and Rory, Shara’s bad-boy neighbour with a crush. Thrown into an unlikely alliance, Chloe, Smith and Rory follow Shara’s trail of annoyingly cryptic clues, and Chloe starts to suspect that there might be more to this small town – and to Shara – than she thought.

Book review : Fix You by J C Doan is heart touching breakaway story. The book deals with two characters Cade Henson and Rhynn Lewis who are running away or fighting with their past and decide at the streets of Minneapolis to risk their lives at any cost. But they met each other and got stuck. The lacking of one was filled by the other and vica-versa. The story kept me intrigued all the time thinking will they really value each other and be honest to a fresh start or someone will linger inbetween leaving other breakaway again. The story is well written in a lucid manner. I loved reading this book and can't wait for the next book in series to come from the author who has an incredible way of depicting love and breakaways of teens and their mindsets. I recommend this fantastic read to all teens and romantic book lovers. Happy Reading!

Fix You Breakaway, 1 Series by JC Doan. Im starting to love Evernight Teen Pub! This is the second eARC I've read of theirs and its been amazing. Doan Set in the streets of Minneapolis Care and Rynn are both running from a past they no longer want and they both are need of of someone. Ours characters show one another what its like to form that family/friendship bond. Fix You left me wanting more of it. I didn't want it to end. Doan's writing is one that surprises me, not just at the end, but throughout the entire book. All in all, this book was a fantastic read. I enjoyed the journey and everything in it. It's fast-paced, totally unpredictable, and one with a twist that will basically blow your mind. I can't wait for book two. “I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

Short Read Packs A Punch

I don’t think there are any words to convey how good this book was. I started ‘Fix You’ without any expectations whatsoever and throughout my reading, I thought I knew how it was going to end. However, I was thrown a curveball I was not prepared for. All I’m left with now are more questions and emotions. This author has gained a new reader, and I will be on the look out for a 2nd book to follow ‘Fix You’. I received this book as an advanced review copy for free, and my review has been left voluntarily.

Fix You is 100% worth it!
Written by prism0prone on 30th Mar 2022

The parallel story telling for each character is fascinating, the relationship build once they meet feels natural, descriptions flow well and put you right into the book, the characterizations are solid and consistent, the darkness is realistic and the humor is subtle enough to balance everything out without cheapening or taking away from the rest. It's a sincere and raw look at two lovely, broken souls that refuse to give up as they journey beyond rock bottom to find things worth living for - even as life tries to repeatedly take it back from them.

I loved this book and really enjoyed the characters and their development. It does end on a cliff hanger with a twist. I wish the ending had been pulled out a little longer, the last part of the book felt rushed in comparison to the journey. I can’t wait to see more from this author (and hopefully a sequel!).

Oh my Gosh

When I say sprint don’t walk to buy this book, I mean it! The book did end on a cliff hanger, which stinks, but makes me want the author to write more. It is one of the best thriller/mystery books I’ve read in a long time. This author is amazing at what they do. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Great coming of age story
Written by Jayme Carruthers on 28th Feb 2022

Fix You was my first introduction to this author and I was not disappointed! It took a few chapters to get invested in the story. At the beginning, it was hard to keep people straight. But once the characters were off on their own, I couldn't put the book down! It's hard to categorize this book. There's definitely some romantic type feelings going on, but its not a romance. Maybe just contemporary? Its definitely a good coming of age type story, though I was shocked its being marketed towards teens. There's quite a few darker moments with a variety of content warnings, so beware. What really got me was the ending. I'm hoping it ends how it does because its leading us into a sequel. Overall, I really enjoyed this book!

Still Trying to Process this Amazing Book!
Written by C.Y. on 28th Feb 2022

Oh. My. Gosh! That ending was totally unexpected and I am still trying to process it. This book is the first that I’ve read from this author, and I really enjoyed the story. The characters were so broken yet it was so incredibly sweet how all of them ended up as a sort of family. It’s hard to describe the book without giving away any spoilers, so I will just say you need to read it. I read this in one sitting and I could not put it down. I also like the fact that there wasn’t any excess of profanity. I definitely want to read more from this author in the future. I received in advance copy of this book for free, and I’m leaving my review voluntarily.
